What a start to the World Cup it has been. Some pretty big upsets and some exciting games versus two great teams. This blog is an early top five teams so far in the World Cup. Without further delay, let’s get into the top five.
Spain would have beat Portugal if De Gea did not act like he was blind. De Gea is the best goalie in the world, do not get that twisted. However, you cannot let that ball slip through your hands. Besides that moment, Spain looked like the Spain we have missed the past couple tournaments. Iniesta looks like he is 26 and in his prime, Isco is playing up to the level he should be playing, and Diego Costa is banging in goals. All is well for Spain right now.
I have Portugal at number three right now because of the way Germany and Argentina played and the way Ronaldo is playing. As I am writing this blog, he just scored a header against Morocco to bring his tally to 4 goals in one and a half games. If Ronaldo continues to put goals in at the rate we are seeing right now, oh boy.
Although France got very lucky with the VAR in their game against Australia, they still looked pretty good. The thing that stuck out for me was Pogba scoring. France needs Pogba to win this tournament. IF he continues to play well and contribute, they are going to be a tough team to stop.
Yes, Germany just had a very tough loss to Mexico, but I am not too worried about the favorites in this tournament. Germany will still make it out of the group and Low will make the necessary adjustments. I think it is also worth mentioning that once they get out of the group stage, most teams are going to try to play them straight up and not counter where I think they will be better off.
