Where will Alexis Sanchez land?
By: Drew Haggerty
Today’s Manchester United fixture against Stoke City was an easy 3-0 victory for the second place team in the Premier League. With goals from Valencia, Martial and Lukaku, Manchester United looked to be in good form with help from everyone on the pitch. However, for many fans, the game being played was not the main focus of the afternoon.
It’s January, which means that its transfer time. Players all over Europe are linked to new destinations in different leagues. This year, everyone’s eyes are on Alexis Sanchez and where he will be playing come the end of the transfer window. Sanchez, the Arsenal forward and the hottest target at the moment, has been linked to Manchester City for months. In recent days however, Manchester United and Liverpool have joined this race for Sanchez.
About midway through Man U’s game today, Manchester City announced that they would no longer pursue Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal. Also, Liverpool pursuits seemed to have simmered as well. So, Alexis to Manchester United? Only if Chelsea does not pursue too aggressively, which in fact, the club said they would do.
So, if Manchester United are the favorite for Alexis Sanchez, what would they have to give up? Being that Sanchez is a forward, they are probably looking to replace him. Arsenal is interested in both Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. I can guarantee Martial is not going anywhere, as he is in great form, vital to the Starting 11 and only 22. So, Mkhitaryan, a player who has lost his role in the Manchester squad over the past few weeks, seems to be the best swap for Sanchez, with the addition of money.
