Manchester United faced off against Crystal Palace in south London this evening for what should have been an easy victory for the Red Devils. With Manchester United sitting in 3rd place with 59 points, Crystal Palace’s battle to stay outside of the relegation zone continued. The game quickly turned ugly for Manchester United as Andros Townsend’s deflected shot left De Gea frozen in his tracks (11th minute) and Van Aanholt caught Man U’s defense sleeping and scored on a quick restart (48th minute).
Luckily for Manchester United, Chris Smalling was able to bring them to within one with a header in the 55th minute. Mourinho subbed in Juan Mata and Luke Shaw in the 65th minute to revitalize a Red Devils team down one goal with 25 minutes remaining. Romelu Lukaku found himself tying the game in the 76th minute to bring the Red Devils back to level. It seemed as though Man U was going to escape London with one point after a two goal comeback until Nemanja Matic netted an absolute screamer from about 25 yards out. With this goal, Manchester United stole all three points from Crystal Palace, and was able to jump Liverpool in the table with 62 points. With 9 games remaining the in Premier League season, Man U’s chance of finishing in the top 4 look very promising.
