The first day of the knockout stage in the 2018 FIFA World Cup was nothing short of spectacular. Both France and Uruguay shined and moved onto the quarterfinals, while sending home the world’s two greatest superstars.
Day 2 of the Round of 16 matches will probably see two heavy favorites win their games. Spain should, on paper, have the ability to take care of Russia and get the job done. But with the advent of the home nation’s growing confidence and the oddly tough road through which we witnessed Spain travel in the group stage, I can expect this to be a great game to watch nonetheless.
The red hot Croatian National Team faces off against an average Danish side that showed a lot of hustle in the tournament thus far. The Danes will have to rely on star Christian Eriksen to even muster a chance against a finalist-contender in Croatia, as many have believed the team to be in light of their success in group play. A world class midfield in Modric and Rakitic can easily help propel Croatia into the quarterfinals, where they will likely face Spain.
The picks are in, and I’m fairly confident: Spain and Croatia will continue to dance into the early days of July.
