Zidane has become the front runner the replace Mourinho at Manchester United. Although Mourinho has not been sacked yet, it seems imminent. If Zidane makes his way to the Theatre of Dreams, Manchester United may be back sooner than you think. I believe that Zidane would fit in very well at Manchester. He is not an experienced coach when it comes to the amount of years he has been doing it, but at Real Madrid he put together one of the best 3 or 4 years in the team’s history.
Let us go back to when he first took over Real Madrid for a quick second. Real Madrid was not in great shape. The former coach, Rafael Benitez, had no control of the team. The real man in charge was Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez. Perez wanted Real Madrid to play with all their stars on the field whether it hurt their chances of getting a result or not. This lead to Real Madrid playing with a midfield of Kroos, Modric and James against Barcelona. While that is a star studded midfield, none of those players love to work back on the defensive end. Real Madrid got smoked that game and it was clear a change was needed. Enter Zinedine Zidane, a Real Madrid legend. Perez could not boss around and bully Zidane into doing what he wanted because of the love Real Madrid has for Zidane. Zidane made one adjustment that lead to his team’s major success, playing Casemiro instead of James at CDM. Real Madrid was a completely different team under Zidane.
This is the main reason why Zidane will be a great fit at Manchester United. He exudes confidence and commands respect. Zidane will have the full respect of the locker room as soon as he walks in. The French manager will also bring in new tactics that will invigorate this stagnant Manchester United side. Zidane understands the balance a team needs to be successful and Manchester has been missing that ever since Mourinho took over.
