Well, who would have thunk it. My favorite, and many peoples’ favorite, Germany, is out of the World Cup. The kicker: Germany finished DEAD LAST in the group. I do not think anyone predicted that. There is a trend developing that the countries who win the World Cup get knocked out in the group stage the next World Cup (see France, Italy and Spain).
There really is not much to talk about. It is extremely shocking, but Germany was just not good enough. They were not even close to the form that they should be at and definitely not in the form of a defending champion. Germany looked very sloppy, unorganized and frantic to be honest. They could not hit water if they fell out of a boat.
The main point I want to make is this: 2017-2018 is maybe the worst year in German football in a very long time. Bayern should have won the Champions League and now this. The country that has seen the knockout stages every single tournament is packing their bags before the other groups have even finished. It is a sad day to be a German. Soccer is a very simple game. 22 men run around a field for 90 minutes and this time the Germans did not win.
