FA Cup 4th Round Predictions
By: Lewis Robinson
Sheffield Wednesday vs Reading
The first game of the fourth round features two teams from the bottom half of the Championship. Both teams will be taking this game seriously and both teams will believe they can win.
My Prediction: Sheff. Wednesday 2- Reading 1
Yeovil Town vs Manchester United
If Yeovil Town do manage to win this game, it may go down as the biggest upset in recent FA Cup memory. Mourinho will want to win a trophy this season, and the FA Cup may be his best chance. I expect Man U to name a changed team, but will still have enough quality to win.
Yeovil Town 1- Manchester United 3
Peterborough United vs Leicester City
Leicester City will be hoping to avoid an upset when they visit League One team Peterborough United. This is the early kickoff on Saturday, and I’m going out on a limb in predicting a stunning upset for the underdogs.
Peterborough 2- Leicester 1
Huddersfield Town vs Birmingham City
A battle between two teams from the northern part of England will be a part of 9 kickoffs that start at 10:00 Eastern Time. Huddersfield will be expected to win against lower class opposition, but this may be a tough one for them.
Huddersfield 2- Birmingham 1
Middlesbrough vs Brighton & Hove Albion
Middlesbrough will feel confident that they can beat one of the big dogs from the Premier League. Brighton can struggle to score goals at times, and this may be a day where bad finishing costs them a spot in the next round.
Middlesbrough 2- Brighton 0
Millwall vs Rochdale
Championship side Millwall face a struggling Rochdale team who are second from bottom in League One. Millwall would be disappointed if they lost this one.
Millwall 2- Rochdale 0
Milton Keynes Dons vs Coventry City
This game between two teams in the lower leagues of England will mean a lot to both sides. Coventry beat Stoke in the last round and I can see them pulling off an upset again.
MK Dons 0- Coventry 1
Notts County vs Swansea City
Notts County are currently having a successful season in League 2 and are chasing automatic promotion, but have lost their last two league games. Premier League side Swansea will be buzzing after beating Liverpool a few days ago and should win but there’s always a chance for a little FA Cup Magic.
Notts County 1- Swansea City 2
Sheffield United vs Preston North End
Sheffield United and Preston are two teams from the Championship that will want this game to be over at the end of 90 minutes. In order to avoid a replay, I think both teams will go on the attack early and will be a back and forth game.
Sheffield United 3- Preston 2
Southampton vs Watford
There are 3 all Premier League ties this weekend, and this one may be the closest of the 3. Southampton are struggling while Watford have just appointed a new manager. It will be interesting to see how strong the teams are on Saturday, with both teams having crucial league games next week.
Southampton 0- Watford 1
Wigan Athletic vs West Ham United
I’ve seen many other predictions for this game which have Wigan pulling off an upset. Wigan have seen a downturn in fortune since winning the FA Cup in 2013, but have started to turn the corner and have a good chance of winning League One. Despite their success so far this season, I think West Ham will have too much quality for them on the day.
Wigan Athletic 1- West Ham United 2
Newport County vs Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham NEED to win a trophy this season or I fear their best players may look elsewhere to achieve their goals. Newport County should offer little resistance to Spurs attack, even if some big names like Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen are left on the bench to start.
Newport County 0- Tottenham Hotspur 3
Liverpool vs West Bromwich Albion
Liverpool continue to frustrate their fans with up and down performances. Beating Manchester City one weekend only to lose to bottom team Swansea the next week sums up how Liverpool have performed for many years now. Klopp may rotate his star attackers but I still believe the Reds will advance to the next round.
Liverpool 2- West Bromwich Albion 0
Chelsea vs Newcastle United
Chelsea are now out of the Carabao Cup, have been left in the dust by Manchester City in league, and face Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League. The FA cup may be their only chance at silverware this season, but I fear Antonio Conte has already mentally checked out and is focusing on where he will head in the summer. Chelsea desperately need to win this one, while Newcastle will be more focused on their Premier League survival than winning trophies.
Chelsea 1- Newcastle 0
Cardiff City vs Manchester City
Cardiff will be looking at how Bristol City set up against Manchester City in the two legs of the Carabao cup
