Reported by telegraph.co.uk, Chelsea is looking at Peter Crouch and I have no idea why. Originally, Chelsea was looking to buy Andy Carroll, however he has an ankle injury that is keeping him off the pitch. Now, the London club is looking at the West Ham striker, Peter Crouch.
While I think Chelsea is in need of a striker, I do not think Peter Crouch is the answer. This is not an argument that should be a surprise. Alvaro Morata is clearly not the answer for Chelsea from my perspective. Chelsea plays him as a target man, but it is clear to tell that he cannot play as a target man in the physical Premier League. Too many times Morata tries to draw fouls and flop to try to earn fouls that will not be called in the Premier League. It is not like he does not have the physical stature to play that style, but Morata does not have the mindset to play the role.
With so many playmakers on the field in Hazard, Fabregas and Willian, a striker who can be a target man is not a bad idea. However, Peter Crouch has no business playing for a club like Chelsea. Peter Crouch is a striker that cannot even make it into the England national team. If you are Chelsea, you do not buy a 37-year-old who is way out of is prime and would be out of his league in the Chelsea team. I also do not believe a target man is even the right call; having as many players who can make plays for themselves and others is the best move. This is evident with what Manchester City is doing now. Furthermore, with a striker like Antoine Griezmann (thesun.co.uk) who is now allowed to leave Atletico Madrid, should be a world-class player Chelsea pursue heavily.
