Two giants from two different continents face off for a trip to the semifinals of the World Cup. I’ll be honest, this is the hardest game to predict so far and it might be the hardest one in the whole tournament from here on out.
Both teams are very strong. Brazil beat a tough Mexico team, lead by a tested international goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa, that was never going to be afraid to go toe-to-toe with them. Belgium proved themselves in a different way. They were never truly tested before Japan and they answered the call. A team like Belgium after going down 2-0 to Japan could have very easily played distraught and lost that game. However, that is not what Belgium did. They fought back and won. Belgium showed me they can win the game when the going gets tough. Belgium took their chances when given to them and stood strong after conceding twice.
This is what makes my decision so tough. Both teams are overflowing with talent and have given me no real reason to doubt them. No matter what I think it will be a great game, yet that doesn’t answer who I think will win. I think Belgium will win for one reason. In tough games, Hazard and Belgium have showed me they can do it and they showed themselves they could. I do not think Brazil and Neymar can say the same.
