A marquee matchup last night at Madison Square Garden between the Milwaukee Bucks and the New York Knights turned sour two minutes into the second quarter. What was supposed to be a key matchup between 2 of the best young players in the NBA, Porzingis and Giannis Antetokounmpo, turned ugly when Porzingis landed on Giannis’ foot after going up to block Giannis’ dunk. Immediately Kristaps fell to the floor and grabbed his knee and was in excruciating pain. He was helped off the court by two teammates.
Now the Knicks are in a bit of a pickle, due to the fact that they are ready to start building a franchise around the 22-year-old all-star. Porzingis was averaging 22.7 6.6 rebounds and an NBA high 2.4 blocks per game. The plan now for Porzingis is that he will sit out about 10 months. The Knicks now will most definitely be in sell-now mode, with players like Kyle O’Quinn and Courtney Lee having good seasons.
Now the Knicks will be leaning on players Like Enes Kanter, Tim Hardaway, Michael Beasley and Courtney Lee. The team will for sure miss Porzingis on the floor, but now can have a good chance at landing a top pick in the draft. If the Knicks can get a player like Marvin Bagley, Deandre Ayton, Luka Doncic or Michael Porter, this could help this Knicks in gearing for the future.
