The Philadelphia Flyers have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL and have completely turned around their season. In their last ten, the Flyers have gone (7-1-2) and have looked amazing. Philly currently sits 3rd in the Metropolitan division and are only 2 points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins with a game in hand. Since the Flyers 10 game losing streak in November, they have gone (23-8-3) and have proved that they can play with any team in the NHL.
The Flyer’s captain Claude Giroux has had an amazing season recording 70 points (20g-50a) in 60 games and has been one of the biggest contributors to turning this team around since their pitiful ten game losing streak. Jakub Voracek has been stellar, leading the team in assists with 55 and has made an impact whenever he touches the ice. Sean Couturier has been incredible so far this season and deserves much more praise than he’s been getting. Before this season, Couturier never recorded more than 39 points in a season and has never had a 20-goal season. Couturier already has 29 goals and 31 assists this year and leads the team in plus/minus being a plus 24. Couturier is only 25, just starting to enter his prime and clearly has his best years ahead of him.
Thoughts on Flyers trading for Petr Mrazek:
I really like the trade the Flyers have made to acquire Mrazek. With Elliot and Neuvirth being out it was a clear hole they needed to fill for the time being. They did not give up much and have a real chance to make a decent run in the playoffs this year.
Side note: Wayne Simmonds is out for 2-3 weeks with an upper-body injury.
