After a heavy load of games last night, the NHL has only two games tonight. It’s Wednesday so the NHL/NBCSN want to draw attention to the “Wednesday Night Rivalry Game”.
8:00 ET (NBCSN), Maple Leafs at Hawks
Both teams are struggling as of late. Chicago is 4-5-1 in their last ten and the team is on a three-game losing streak. In those three games they have been out-scored 13-3. With Corey Crawford injured Jeff Glass will get the start between the pipes. The Hawks are seven points out of the last wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Now a look at the Leafs. Toronto is 3-4-3 in their last 10 and are coming off a 4-2 defeat against the surging Colorado Avalanche. Toronto is 11 games in front of Detroit and Montreal for the third spot in the Atlantic Division. So, it is safe to say the Leafs are going to make the playoffs, but their play must improve to be a contender come playoff time. I will take the Hawks in this one just based off the fact they are desperate for points.
10:00 ET, Kings at Flames
Calgary is a team in the NHL that is underrated, they are 7-1-2 in their last ten and no one is really talking about their success in that span. The Flames have nine straight games in which they have received at least a point. They have not lost a regulation game in the whole month of January, they lost to the Ducks on December 29th. Mike Smith will get the start for the Flames. LA come into this game struggling, they are 3-7-0 in their last ten, and a contributor of that poor record is the poor play of Jonathan Quick. Quick, the starting goalie for tonight is 1-6-0 with 23 goals allowed in that seven-game span. LA has 55 points a win against the Flames will jolt them pass the Flames for the third spot in the pacific. The Kings are my pick for this game.
