Since 2018 began the New York Rangers have slowly dropped out of a playoff spot. Since the new year hit, the Rangers have gone (5-9-0) and now sit 2 points out of a playoff spot behind the Philadelphia Flyers, who are even in games. In their last 14 games, the Rangers have posted a terrible -24 goal differential and went from being a plus 19 to a minus 5 on the season. It is clear the team has been hurting without Chris Kreider and Kevin Shattenkirk.
Today the Rangers have officially requested Rick Nash's No-Trade list and he will most likely be moved before the trade deadline. Nash is 33 years old and has 25 points on the season (15g-10a). Nash is currently making $7.8 million and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. I'm assuming the Rangers are going to have to eat a good amount of his contract in order to move him. Between the Rangers battling injuries and having 6 more road games than home games left on the season, making the playoffs this year will be a difficult task.
