Beast. Only way to describe the 20-year-old New York Islanders center. 20 years old; the same age as me but the difference is he is lighting up the NHL and I’m here writing a blog about him! Anyway, Mat has not only had an amazing January but has been great the whole season, he has 51 points in 52 games. The New York Islanders had an awful January to put in nicely, the team went 5-7-1; but the bad play of the Islanders can not be placed on Barzal. Barzal scored at least one point in 8 out of 13 games this month. A game that defines Barzal’s play from the month is against the New York Rangers on January, he had two goals and three assists in the 7-2 win over the Rangers. His total point stat line for the month was 3 goals and 12 assists.
If you have not watched Barzal play this season, get on it. Barzal’s hands, passing ability, and skating are special to watch. I have been a hockey fan for all my life and there are few players I can say that are better facilitators than this guy.
Stat of the day: The last three players to score 50 points in 50 games were Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, and Evgeni Malkin. (These guys aren’t too bad).
