Giants owner, John Mara is getting tired of OBJ’s antics and has said that no player is “untouchable” when it comes to being traded. A recent video of Odell in Paris with a model suggests that there were drugs in his hotel room and the media will not stop questioning the ownership of the Giants organization. “I’m tired of answering questions about Odell’s behavior and what the latest incident is,’’ Mara said.
Odell did not help his situation with the team when he announced that he will be holding out for a contract extension and will not touch the field until he is paid. The star WR is essentially giving the Giants an ultimatum to either pay him or trade him and the Giants may be leaning to the latter option. Odell is in the final year of his contract and is set to make $8.45 million in 2018.
The Giants are coming off an injury-riddled 3-13 season and are possibly opening up to the idea of a full rebuild. In a possible rebuild the team would try to accumulate as many draft picks as they can, and if they trade Odell this offseason, they could receive some high-end value for the elite wide receiver. Although Odell’s character is being questioned, there is no doubt there are teams out there that are ready to take a risk on one of the most athletic receivers to play the game. The Jets and Browns both have a lot of space in the salary cap and could be willing to spend the big bucks to acquire OBJ from the Giants.
