With every passing day, the story of Julio Jones and the Atlanta continues to get more and more interesting, yet so bizzare. Many football fans remember an odd story that broke, when Julio unfollowed everyone on his Instagram account, including teammates and the organization itself. He also delated all his pictures that were associated with the organization and this led to many people believing he will be traded. This sent the entire state of Georgia into a panic, as nobody had a clue what was happening. Many fans were wondering if the Julio and Falcons relationship was over and if he would be dealt, as this all occurred days before the NFL Draft.
Then the draft came. Julio was not traded and the Falcons were lucky to have Alabama star wide receiver, Calvin Ridley fall to them at 26. Many Falcons fans then became very excited because pairing a player like Ridley, who has speed and tremendous hands with Julio and Mohammad Sanu would be atop the league’s best. Add those receivers with running backs, Davonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman and I think the team has a top 3 offense in the league.
The Falcons proceeded to stay a little worried, when Jones decided he will not attend the team’s voluntary workouts this summer. Matt Ryan has stated publicly he is not concerned about Jones going anywhere, which is promising to hear, but still nobody knows. Jones would then say that there is “no bad blood” within the two parties, which does give fans some room to breathe because I know for sure this is a total emotional rollercoaster. Jones, since has been seen working out by himself and most recently has been seen working out with future hall of famer Terrell Owens. This however, does have the front office a little uneasy because I am guessing that they think Jones is obtaining a lot of advice on what he should do next.
Personally, I am a huge fan of Julio, but I do think this whole situation is just very silly and can be avoided. I totally understand that Julio wants more money, especially when a receiver like Sammy Watkins is making more. Jones has about 3 years and $31 million dollars left on his contract that he originally signed for 5 years and $71.26 million in 2015. To anyone, that is a TON of money, but to Julio, who has seen a lot of players receive max contracts, now wants one of those for himself.
I really do not believe Jones will be traded because that would be absolutely outrageous. When trying to think of potential trade partners, it is almost impossible to do so because there is no way the team would trade him to someone within the NFC South and I maybe even the NFC. I am sure any team would rejoice to have a player like Julio, but he did shoot down any possible trade rumors. Julio, on the other hand, is the type of player I give a check book to and tell him to write his own contract. So, if I were the Falcons I would make sure this man is happy and wants to remain a Falcon for life. The Falcons are a team who were minutes away from winning a Super-Bowl, so Julio should not be going anywhere as I believe the Falcons are still atop the league’s best.
