Kirk Cousins is a great quarterback that just got absolutely SCREWED by the Washington Redskins. The Redskins apparently had this master plan to franchise tag Kirk Cousins for 2 years in a row just to sign Mr. check down pass, 33-year-old, Alex Smith.
Kirk Cousins could not be happier. He is going into free agency with a TON of teams that would love to sign him and pay him the big bucks that he’s been going after for years.
Here are the 6 potential landing spots for Captain Kirk:
New York Jets
The Jets surprised a lot of people this year just by not being the worst team in NFL history! Their defense played well but they are desperate for a good quarterback to come into the mix and make this team a playoff contender. Three of the Jets’ 5 wins this year was against playoff teams (Bill, Chiefs, Jaguars). The Jets also have the most cap space going into this offseason and are willing to spend a little extra to get Kirk.
Carson Palmer has finally retired, he had his moments as an Arizona Cardinal but was very inconsistent. Kirk can try to go to the desert but I don’t think it’s likely that he will go play in a tough division with Seattle, the up and coming Rams, and Jimmy G, the most anticipated hero of the NFL.
The Jaguars have arguably the most dominant defense in the NFL. The only problem is people are debating if Blake Bortles is the team that can take them to the Super Bowl. I personally believe in Blake Bortles and believe that if he can take the Jaguars to the AFC Championship and play a close game with the juggernaut Patriots, then he has a chance to take the next step next year. Kirk would be a great addition to the Jaguars but, if it isn’t broke don’t fix it.
The Browns always seem to be in the mix for every quarterback but can never finish the deal. The key difference in this instance is Kirk Cousins openly said he would be willing to play for the Browns. What a good man Captain Kirk is. Openly saying you would play for the Browns is bold statement. In the end, he probably is just leading them on setting up just another heartbreak for the dawg pound.
The Broncos are a top candidate in the race for Cousins. They are a quarterback away from being a contender in an AFC. Elway knows that he needs a quarterback at the end of this offseason whether it is free agent, Kirk Cousins, or draft prospect, Baker Mayfield.
The Bills had a crazy season, from benching Tyrod in the middle of the season, to barely squeaking into the playoffs on an improbable win from Andy Dalton. The Bills have been trying to force Tyrod out for quite a while now, and they have that chance again with Kirk looking for a new team.
