Brandin Cooks has been traded to the Rams and the Patriots are now running out of wide receivers. Amendola was lost to the Dolphins in free agency and the top two receivers left are Julian Edelman and Chris Hogan. The Patriots now have two first round picks (23rd and 31st overall). There are many courses of action Belichick and the Patriots could pursue.
They are most likely thinking about their future and are starting to consider trading up in the draft for Tom Brady’s prodigy. With Jimmy G’s departure to San Francisco, the Patriots are going to need to start grooming a young QB to get ready for the end of Tom Brady’s career. Tom Brady can still perform well with Edelman, Gronk, and Hogan, so this is a smart decision to insure their future.
Another course of action the Patriots could take is pursuing Odell. The Rams are now out of the bidding war for OBJ because of this trade, and Pats now have the two first round picks that they would need to trade for the star wide receiver.
Or they can just keep the draft picks and pick at 23rd and 31st, but who really thinks that’s going to happen?
