What is the key to reaching the top of the NFC?
The Saints have always had a successful offense under Drew Brees, but the problem has always been the defense. Things finally changed in 2017 when the defense finally got its act together. Rookie, Marshon Lattimore, locking down receivers, Cameron Jordan haunting opposing quarterbacks, and Manti Te’o finally deciding to have a solid season for the first time in his career. These key players helped the defense in a big way and led them all the way to the NFC divisional game, and one tackle away from the championship game. Marcus Williams looked like he was tackling Manti Te’o’s invisible ex-girlfriend as he completely whiffed on Stefon Diggs who scored the game winning touchdown as the clock expired. The key to winning the NFC is improving the defense and the Saints know that, as they traded up in the draft to grab DE, Marcus Davenport out of UTSA with the 14thoverall pick. The lethal combination of Davenport and Cameron Jordan will be a scary sight for Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, and Famous Jameis.
Is Julio Jones days in Atlanta numbered?
Julio Jones and the Falcons have had an awkward offseason. Julio Jones has deleted all of his pictures on the Falcons off of his Instagram account, which led to speculation. I even believed it was a stretch myself. But that was all until April 26th, the first night of the draft when the Falcons selected Alabama WR, Calvin Ridley with their first pick. With possibly the best one-two punch in Julio and Mohammad Sanu, the Falcons didn’t need a receiver... unless the belief in the front office is that there is a good chance Julio leaves. Julio denied claims saying he wants to be a Falcon for life, but this could easily just be to keep the media off his back. In any case the Falcons are now prepared to move on from Julio if he does decide to try to explore other options.
Is this year the comeback of Cam Newton?
To start off, I’ve always been a fan of Scammy Cammy. No one really appreciated how he took a group of rag-tag receivers and made them look like Pro Bowlers in a 15-1 season, where he led them to the Super Bowl. Oh yea, he was also the biggest threat in the run game. It was the NFL equivalent of Lebron carrying these Cavs to the Finals. But now in 2018 he doesn’t have to do it all. Cam can stay healthy and play at his dominant level because of one-person, Christian McCaffery. McCaffery takes so much pressure off of Cam because of the running game, and the short pass screens that he can dump the ball of when his offensive line does not feel like blocking. A happy Cam is a happy Carolina.
Can the Buccaneers compete in a tough NFC South division?
Another year the Buccaneers were primed for success... gone. With the talents of Jameis Winston, Mike Evans, and a young defense, fans are just waiting for this team to break out. Although the Buccaneers seem to be improving on defense with the addition of Vita Vea the team has to fight against three teams in the division that have a realistic chance at the playoffs. Jameis Winston is not a terrible quarterback, but he has not proved he has what it takes to battle against the other teams in the division. Their best hope is to throw it up to star receiver, Mike Evans, and hope for the best.
