As of today the Los Angeles Chargers have signed former Dolphins Center, Mike Pouncey. Pouncey will get a 2 year deal worth $15 million which does not break the bank for the Chargers who are unfortunately low in Cap Space.
Pouncey, a three time Pro – Bowler (2013-2105), has been the captain of Miami’s offensive line since 2011 and has been one of the teams most consistent players. At the age of 28 Mike is still competing at a high level, which will tremendously help this Charger’s offensive line. A veteran at the center position next to two second year guys (Forrest Lamp and Dan Feeney) will help this offensive line grow successfully together into hopefully a top tier unit.
Mike is a great fit for this Chargers line due to the 3 – 4 defense run by Chiefs, Raiders, and Broncos who the chargers will be facing six times a year. Having a veteran player in the trenches across from a nose guard and two other down lineman, will help the young Feeney and Lamp to a significant extent. Creating a strong and consistent pocket for Rivers will launch this offense to new heights higher then we saw last year. With a clean pocket for Rivers to throw in and big holes for Gordon to explode through, we could see the AFC’s new top offense. Pouncey will be a significant piece to this Charger puzzle that hopefully pushes them over the hump and back into controlling this competitive AFC West division.
