Mike Soroka was placed on the 10-day DL with a right shoulder strain earlier today ahead of his scheduled start in the series finale against the Chicago Cubs tonight. The righty will be replaced with LHP Max Fried, who will be making his first start of the season after four appearances in relief on the year.
Fried, the Braves’ #8 prospect, started four games and entered from the bullpen in five games for Atlanta in 2017, finishing with 1-1 with a 3.81 ERA through 26 total innings. In 6 relief innings this season, Fried has struck out 7 batters and 3 walks while allowing 4 runs.
He’ll take the mound as the Braves look to win the series before continuing the homestand in a 3-game set against the Miami Marlins, who sit at the bottom of the NL East.
