Alright, so as we all know the Mets are clearly struggling and it is just brutal to watch this team right now. After getting swept at home by the Orioles, who are the worst team in the league, trade rumors broke that the team should trade Syndergaard or deGrom and hold a fire sale. Well right before I went to bed last night I thought about this topic for a whole 2 seconds and the only answer I could think about is NO and how insane it would be for the Mets to trade either one or both of these stars.
These two pitchers are THE Mets, there are no Ifs, ands or buts about it. Who would the team be without them? the answer, definitely the worst team in the league for years to come. I mean who would pitch for them? Jason Vargas? If they traded Steven Matz as well, it would be hard to watch a rotation without its 2 stars. The Mets are a New York team and New York fans pretty much have the craziest fan bases in the entire country, so could you imagine the rage if one of these players got traded? Riots would begin at Citi Field and no fan would ever attend a game because would be nothing to look forward to. The organization needs something for fans to go see and fortunately for them they have 2 pitchers who fans love to see every 5th day. I know for myself, I attend many games a season and I try to attend as many games as possible when these two aces take the mound. With all the talent the Yankees have now, it would be dreadful to watch this unfold in front of our eyes.
So the Yankees have been linked to the Mets in recent trade rumors and I began to think on possible returns for either starter. Alright, so in return from the Yankees, the Mets should ask for Gleybar Torres, Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffield or Estevan Florial. Though, this is a crazy thought, it can be considered reasonable. If there is one thing I know for sure, it is that if the Mets traded either deGrom or Syndergaard to the Yankees, the Met fan base would actually break apart and lose their mind because trading them to the Yankees isn’t like trading to another team, it is the team ALL Met fans CANNOT stand watching win as there has always been a rivalry from Met fans to Yankee fans.
Though I believe a trade is not likely and the team would look to move other pieces such as Asdrubal Cabrera, it is something to think about and for Met fans, have nightmares about. The team has a decision to make and it is to ask themselves, “are we in total rebuilding mode? but it is a tough question. As July 31 approaches, I am very excited to hear what rumors come up and how the Mets handle the trade market.
